What is a Postpartum Doula?
A Postpartum Doula is a non-medical person who supports women and families in the immediate postpartum period following birth. This 12 week period is also known as the fourth trimester.
Navigating those first weeks can be hard. Having an extra person around who is knowledgeable and experienced with caring for postpartum families can make a huge difference in your postpartum experience. I am dedicated to providing quality care and relevant evidence-based education to families as they adjust to their new family dynamics. My goal for every family is to feel supported and empowered as they move through these early postpartum days.
Nia’s Nest postpartum doula services include:
•Evidence-based education
•Assistance with self care & recovery measure for mother (or birthing person)
•Assistance with newborn care
•Support family by helping with meals, laundry, light tidying and occasional sibling care
The roles of Postpartum Doulas and Newborn Care Specialists (formerly known as baby nurse or night nurse) can overlap, but they are not the same. Newborn Care Specialists care only for the baby and Postpartum Doulas care for the mother (or birthing person), baby and assist the home in various ways. While I am trained as a Newborn Care Specialist, at this time I am only offering Postpartum Doula services.
